What are long term & short term investing

A fair warning it’s surprisingly hard to get a perfect definition for long or short-term investing so these are my thoughts based on my research and personal experience.

These are named deceptively in that short-term investing could be any time ranging from a day to 3 years whereas long-term investing could be anywhere from 1-2 months to the rest of your life (or even longer). As you can see there is pretty significant overlap and that is because your investment could change which area it falls under depending on risk, flexibility & other factors such as the amount of money you are putting in, the approach to investing, & the goals you are investing to prepare for.
